Joy Over Time
Graphing someone's happiness over time: a positive derivative, a negative derivative, and finally a decline that's slowing down, which counts as good news (a positive second derivative).
Transcript
[1] [Graph of JOY vs. TIME, rising] "See? Positive derivative. You're growing happier." "Graphs have that effect on me!"
[2] [JOY falling] "Hmm. Negative derivative." "Fix it! Tell me a joke!"
[3] [JOY falling, faster then slower; labeled "faster decrease," "slower decrease"] "Um… the graph says your happiness is still declining…" "Yes – but more slowly!"
